The Christie Private Care Rated ‘Outstanding’ by CQCPosted July 02, 2018
The Christie Private Care, part of HCA Healthcare UK, has been rated outstanding by national regulators the Care Quality Commission.
Specialising in the diagnosis, management, and treatment of all cancers, the facility is a joint venture with The Christie NHS Foundation Trust and was launched in 2009.
With a total of 34 inpatient beds, The Christie Private Care provides comprehensive cancer treatment including surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, stem cell transplantation, immunotherapy, and care in the last days of life.
The CQC found examples of outstanding practice that enable the delivery of high quality, medical care, including:
• Strong multidisciplinary working
• Numerous examples of exceptional care being provided to patients,
• Comprehensive systems to keep patients safe
• Personalised care for each patient,
• Appointment waiting times are consistently low.
• Excellent leadership from managers
In addition, the CQC also praised outpatient services and diagnostic services at The Christie Private Care. Patient feedback about the care they received was consistently excellent with a strong patient-centred culture demonstrated by staff.
The genuine open culture in which all safety concerns around the services offered are raised by staff were also recognised by the CQC as being outstanding. The facility was found to have a proactive approach to anticipating and managing risk – ensuring that all services had sufficient medical and nursing staff to ensure patient safety.

Ellen Armistead, CQC’s Deputy Chief Inspector of Hospitals, said: “This is an exceptional report for a service that delivers exemplary care. We saw excellent leadership from managers, and all staff were passionate about providing high quality care for their patients.
“It was clear the clinic delivered person-centred care – it provided a tailored service to each patient, including practical, spiritual and emotional support. Patients were able to access services and appointments at a time that suited them, appointment waiting times were consistently low.
“To be rated outstanding in four areas is a wonderful achievement and I congratulate The Christie Private Care Clinic. CQC will continue to monitor the service and return at some time in the future to check on progress.”
