Pain Management & Symptom Control

Pain management and symptom control are a vital aspect of cancer treatment. You may experience chronic pain and/or a range of side effects caused by the disease and its treatment, including (but not limited to):

  • Tiredness and poor sleep patterns
  • Loss of appetite
  • Feeling sick (nausea)
  • Mouth problems, for example, dryness, soreness and taste changes
  • Anxiety and depression
  • Bowel problems

A pain management and symptom control specialist will help to relieve these so that you are more comfortable and more able to continue with your day-to-day life. This type of specialist may not directly treat the illness itself but this does not necessarily mean your condition is incurable. They will be able to offer you a range of ways, including drugs and procedures, physiotherapy or occupational therapy, psychological support and complementary therapy, to manage your pain and other issues.
